Southampton: Autumn is here, and with cooler temperatures comes the time to prepare firewood for the winter. Many DIY enthusiasts are now reaching for their chainsaws to cut firewood – but that can quickly become expensive. Traditional chainsaws consume a lot of energy and are often maintenance-intensive. In times of rising energy prices, these costs add up quickly, and it can cost several hundred euros per year to prepare wood for the winter or maintain the chainsaw. But a clever inventor from Southampton wanted to change that.
Richard Mertens, an experienced engineer who worked for many years at one of the leading chainsaw manufacturers, knows the challenges of cutting wood all too well. His many years of experience inspired him to find a solution that is both energy-efficient and user-friendly.
His invention could revolutionize the chainsaw world: a device that uses 60% less energy, is much easier to use, and requires minimal maintenance – perfect for the cold months when wood for heating and fireplaces is urgently needed.
"When I presented my idea to the management, it quickly became clear that they were more interested in their old, expensive models. Instead of promoting my innovation, they threatened to fire me if I brought my product to the market" Mertens said.
But the native of Southampton did not let himself be discouraged. Instead, he went his own way: he patented his invention, found investors, and began developing his revolutionary product – the UltraSaw, a 3-in-1 chainsaw sharpener that changes everything.
9 months later, he proudly presents the UltraSaw – the ideal tool for woodwork in autumn and winter, setting new standards for efficiency and thriftiness.
